2 and 38, 38 and 18

I barely remember my birthday yesterday because I spent it in a drug-induced haze.  No need to break out the cell phones to call our social worker, though.  Because the drug?  Was Nyquil.  I haven't taken Nyquil in a number of years and oh, my lands, y'all, did I forget how much it knocks one on one's tushie.

At least it did me.

I turned 38 yesterday.  The Tongginator is eight-years-old and in second grade.  Squirt is nearly two, which means she will most likely graduate from high school in 2027, at the age of 17, almost 18.  Umm... I'll be 53 by then.  My momma?  Was 38 when I graduated from high school.

I don't feel old, but I feel like an old momma.

The question is... should I?

Are you kidding? You are a spring chicken! I'm turning 45 this summer, about a month after my daughter turns 5. I'll be 58 when she graduates from high school!

My mother was 41 when I graduated from high school, but she was 58 when my youngest brother graduated from high school.

Ah no - you are, in fact, a mere child!! Our youngest is 4 and born in January, so he will graduate high school in 14 years (by my math that is also the class of '27). I will be a whopping 66 at his graduation (Yes - the Aus-man is currently 52). Then again - my Mom was 65 at my HS graduation - it's all good!

hugs - aus and co.

Noooo! I just turned 50, and my kids are 12, 9, 9 and 8. I almost called my blog, "Hey, I'm that Old Mom," but I didn't want to hurt my own feelings. The URL was available, so it was tempting. Because you tend to hang out with the moms of your kids' classmates and friends, older moms tend to dress younger, think younger, act younger. Many of my friends from college are becoming grandmas and I still have kids in elementary school. Hurray for "old moms," however, I'm not sure you really qualify!

Here here to the above comments. I'll be 44 next month and I think Tallula and Squirt are very close in age. So if you're old, I'm ancient.
I keep telling myself older = wiser.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TM! Sorry you were sick, but I hope you got to celebrate in style... you deserve it :)

Eek, you're not old although I'm definitely feeling your post. I'm going to be 39 in 2 months - we have a 6 year old. I was talking to a new coworker who I was pretty sure was my age (and she is, just 2 years older) who started talking about her grandson. That completely threw me for a loop.

Thanks for doing the math for me! Our daughter should graduate the same year as yours, but I'm 4 years older than you, so that would make me 57! Yikes!

I've been the young mom too as our oldest son graduated from high school just a few weeks ago. I certainly see things diffferently now than I did when he was little.

Sorry you were sick on your birthday. No fun!

Happy Birthday!!!! Crazy girl, you are a young'un still. Hope your drug induced haze was full of happy hallucintions :) You know, like the Dumbo dream sequence? Or the Winnie the Pooh Heffalump dreams? :)

I'll be 44 next month, same as Stefanie.... ooooh, same birth month as my bloggy crush. Wow. What a coinky dink.

Shaggy graduates next week. I'll still be 43. :)When Li'l Empress graduates, I'll be 56. And who knows what I'll be when Brynna turns 18. OY.

I think a lot of us our age feel like old mamas, but it's just the nature of how we do things differently now. I am 38 with a 3 year old and still planning another one. I see people look at me with surprise when they hear how young my daughter is, but it works for us!

*ahem* I just put my age in my blog so I won't even answer this question.

I turn 52 at the end of the month. So my youngest, our DD born in China, will graduate when I am turning 63. (Don't even ask how old DH will be!)

PS--Happy Birthday! Nyquil knocks me for a loop, too, which is why I take it when I have a migraine--it's the only way I can get to sleep with a migraine. Hope you feel better soon!

Oh come ON!
I was 40 when Princess Sparkly was born, 41 when she came home, about to turn 46 right now and take on kid #2, will be 58 when Sparkly graduates.
I am the oldest Mom in Sparkly's class, and almost always the oldest Mom everywhere we go. You are making me feel even older with this crazy 'I'm an old Momma at 38' talk. You haven't even hit 40 and the 'everything always hurts' years.
I'm going to chalk this up to Nyquil-induced crazy talk. I hope you feel better soon.
Happy Birthday spring chicken.

Happy birthday spring chicken!!!:) I just turned 49 and my "baby" is 4. I can't even bring myself to figure out how old I'll be when she graduates! I choose to remember that I was 43 when my oldest graduated:)

Happy Birthday! I'm almost 2 years older than you and my Sweet Pea is younger than Squirt, so as much as I like math and numbers, I choose to just ignore it. I know lots of moms older than you...Besides children giggles keep everyone young :)

Happy Birthday!

Happy Belated!! Sorry you're sick. Nyquil kicks my butt too.

And no, not old. Not at all.

Happy birthday! I'll be 38 in December, and our youngest is 2.5
Just realized that I will be 53 when she graduated from HS too... Oh gosh...

Karen said...

Not at all - I turn 50 on the day my baby starts kindergarden - haven't bothered to do the math on it, but I will be really old when she graduates college!

But I do know how you feel....

Nyquil induced crazy talk indeed...I'm 42 and my babies are 6 and 3. ;)

I forgot our birthdays were so close. I turned 39 on May 25th. 38 was hard for me last year. I even threw a fit when my mom put a 3 and an 8 on my birthday cake. I did NOT want to see it. Only birthday that was harder...25.
I think it's because when I was 25 I thought I'd be married with 2 kids and I'd just broken up with someone.
Last year, I think it hit me that I would have GREAT nieces and nephews before I would ever get married.
My mom was 38 when my oldest brother graduated from high school...50 when I did, and 58 when my little brother did.
Amelia has 11 years of school left...I'll be 50 when she graduates.
My niece graduated this year, my sister is 43 and I'd say she's on the younger side.
We are the young ones...especially in the adoption world;)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I wish you'd have been able to enjoy something more than Nyquil.

Depends on who you compare yourself to. To your mother, then obviously yes. To all us oldies, then no.

Um, no...I'll be 40 in October, and my OLDEST child graduated from kindergarten today.

Happy Birthday!!!

Oh my.....please DO NOT feel old!!!

Quite frankly, I am afraid to do the math regarding how old I will be when Avery graduates from high school.

I am about to tell you something few know....we are getting ready to start over again (yep as in newborn) either through adoption or conception. I too will be 38 in September, and will be ummm older at my child's graduation but I know this is what God wants! And when I graduated high school my mom was 34, The twins were born when I was one month from 34 so ummm yeah! We joke that they will say those old white people there ~ nope don't know them! (Aaron turned 40 this year) So you are so not old, my mantra has always been you are only as old as you feel!!!

Gave birth to PJ six weeks before I turned 41. Little Dude was born the next year. This July I turn 45. I will be about 60 when Little Dude graduates from High School.
We planned it this way - but man am I tired!
Happy Birthday.

46 with a 4 year....sure I might be the oldest mom at graduation but I bet you I will also be the most proud.

Happy birthday youngster!

30 years. That is the age difference between me and my oldest. At least it helps me keep track of my own age. Even on a good day I tend to forget. Maybe that is a good thing. ;-)

You are a baby! My older daughter just graduated from college; my younger daughter, who is about to turn 8, will graduate from high school when I am 56. You are by no means old.

You are a baby! I will be 49 in a few days!!! We went to a graduation the other night and I was figuring up when the girls would graduate from high school and it made me sad :( I was such a young momma the first time around:)

I'm 50 years older than our younger daughter, who will enter Kindergarten in August. When she graduates from high school, I will, God willing, be 67, going on 68. I know I'm the oldest Mom in her class, and probably for most of the school.

I'll be one year younger than you in 4 days! Thanks for leading the way for me!

I've got 10 years on you and an up-coming Kindergartener. I also have several others, ranging from 21 down to 6.

I'm going to be confused with my girls' Grandma for the rest of my life (and I'll be 61 and 62 when they graduate from High School). Yikes.

First, Happy Belated Birthday! You have heard my story before - You guys are babies! I was 50 when I was in China adopting AA. I will be the exact age my Grandmother was when AA graduates. OK, I am old! What is so neat, is that my husband is six years older then me, so he is beyond OLD! We love our daughter and all the excitement. Plus the three Grands. Am I tired at times and working full time, yes. But what a special, wonderful life I have. Enjoy every minute!! We are so blessed!
