Whirlwind Week

Oh my lands, y'all, what a whirlwind this past week has been! I've been running around so quickly, and so cluelessly, that I've experienced all manner of accidents and mistakes these past seven days, some caused by my sensory-self and some from my own special brand of stupidity.

Sunday Linkage didn't happen because, not only was the Tongginator sick with a cold all weekend, but I also managed to upend an entire grande (why, oh, why can't they just say LARGE???) latte in my car. Which means I spent all! Saturday! afternoon! scrubbing my car's floor mats and actual carpet, trying to remove eau de steamed milk and coffee. Unfortunately, despite over three hours of Intensive Scrubbing, I only managed to give myself a severe case of car-carpet-scrubbing tennis elbow AND to create the oh-so-lovely aroma of Steamed Milk and Coffee With a Side of Carpet Cleaner.

Which means we spent several hundred dollars today getting my car detailed, inside and out.

Even before that stellar display of coordination, I managed to share my utter cluelessness with the world when I sent sent off our referral acceptance to our agency. Not that we were clueless for sending off our acceptance (because we are totally committed to mei mei). No, I was clueless, y'all, because I forgot to include one key piece of paper, resulting in a telephone call and email from our point-of-contact and a second run to Fed Ex.

Chicken, meet head.

And when the travel agency contacted us on Friday for basic information such as our passport numbers, I provided nine of the ten numbers identifying my momma's passport. And I had to contact my momma twice to get the tenth number... because somehow I lost the piece of paper I jotted the information down on the first time.

chicken head? The head is GONE. I'm just a chicken running around completely headless, with no hope of re-capitation. (Umm... is re-capitation even a word? Whatever. I'm evidently too clueless to know.)

But oh my lands, y'all, have there been some wonderfully bright spots amid the whirlwind. We saw mei mei's developmental report and it looks wonderful, y'all, especially since her referral photos back-up some of the developmental milestones mentioned in the report. Which relieves this future momma's worried heart.

And many of y'all may already know this, but my LID buddy Krista? Received a referral for a child from the Tongginator's orphanage. With penguins involved. Which is a Huge Deal of Major Proportions, although I'm sure y'all already know that if you know Krista.

Another wonderful, amazing surprise came from Autumn. Y'all, I didn't expect this at all. It made the tears well up. Autumn touched my heart so, so much. Because she sent mei mei this, y'all:

Created from the remnants of her daughter's 100 Good Wishes Quilt. (I know.)

It doesn't get much better than all of this, despite the whirl.

Oops! I'm up to late if I see your post! Sorry it was a crazy week, but really how could it not be! You have a referral and a trip to plan and paper work and excitement and...well, I don't think anyone has a head in the weeks between referral and travel!

A lovely quilt and what a blessing to have a LID buddy with a referral.

Wow - and I thought I had a busy week! Dare I say that you are rolling now!!

Re-capitation - If it's not in the dictionary it should be - it's a GREAT word!!

And the quilt - that dear lady is what we refer to as a labor of love - and y'all have a bunch of love going around!

hugs - aus and co.

Oh, Autumn, now I'm going to cry. Actually, I AM crying. What a thoughtful thing to do! I know that it will be treasured for years to come and Mei Mei will be able to tell her children about the love shown for her before she even arrived in her forever home.

As for TM being clueless this week --- it's true but expected. We love her anyway.

Lots of love and prayer went into that little quilt -- for the life journey ahead. Can't wait to hear all about it.

And isn't all that crazy stuff that happened NORMAL between referral and travel??? LOL

We are just as excited for you TM! I saw the pic on FB and she's precious!!!

I will have to agree with you that the second time around seems to be more chaotic, but in the end I sit and laugh at the silliness. Perhaps it's because we're already Mommy's! That's what I attribute the tornado effect to:))

Anyway perhaps we may all travel around the same time. Who knows. But thank you so much for the offer. I think you may have your hands and home full though LOL!

Best wishes and congratulations!!! The quilt is gorgeous!!!

Holy cow TM, you've been crazy busy!

I figured you were busy because I know how much stuff has to get done between referral and travel, but the crazy part? I can tell how crazy you've been by the number of "y'all"s in your post. This was an 8 "y'all" post. Might just be a new record.

tee hee.

A Northerner can tease you a bit, can't she?

Love the quilt. Love it. ;-)

Your excitement is absolutely contageous in this post!!! I'm just so excited for you.

We just "adopted" Maria from El Salvador through Compassion. I know it's not the same as your little Mei Mei - but something we've been talking and praying about for awhile now. I can hardly stop looking at her little picture so I can only imagine how you feel!

Be blessed, y'all! ;-)

That Autumn was thoughtful enough to send you that amazing quilt doesn't surprise me at all. She is one in a million. I adore her! So gorgeous. Treasure it always as I know you will.

So excited for you!

Your head will return- eventually!
So how does it work in the NSN world TM? Will you be issued TA like as soon as they receive your acceptance papers?!!?
So excited for the Tonggu Family! Oh and not to be ignorant, but I am...is Mei Mei from Tonggu County as well???

Beautiful quilt! I so understand your chickenheadedness (there's a word for you!). I bopped myself hard on my cheekbone answering the phone right before we traveled! Nice black eye!

Hang in there. You will be on your way to your sweet mei mei sooN!

Oh yes..I get it. I can't sleep. Can't think straight. How are we gonna last 6-8 more weeks?

I'm so excited to have a little Tongginator now, too! I could hardly believe it!!! I just hope somehow our paths cross in China.

Oh I've been praying for you. It's been almost 6 years but I do remember baby brain. You'll get there you'll have her in your arms and then time will stand still while you're in China. Then the baby brain will return when you get home.

I think you can cut yourself a little slack. Life has just become a tad crazy for you. :)

Krista and the penguins. Unbelievable. Totally!

The blanket is so beautiful!

I agree with Lisa, cut yourself some slack my friend. It is such a wild ride between referral and travel. I think I survived on sheer adrenaline. I barely slept and OH MY.... I had several near miss car accidents because my mind was always wondering down "The Long Road to China".....haha!!

The quilt is just gorgeous.....what a beautiful and thoughtful gift.

Thinking of you and am so excited to follow your journey.

PS...Isn't that unbelievable about Krista? As soon as I saw her name I knew the orphanage and then those penguins...... CRAZY!!! Looks like we have a Tongginator II.

Aww. LOVE that quilt. So happy for Krista, too. :)

Now your car is clean and ready for that Mei Mei! Nothing but the best, right? And you have another story to tell her about her birth into your family.

I'm not even sure which part I'm saying WOW about... all of it, I guess.

I totally freaked when I saw that there was a TongGu referral in this batch.
