Referrals Soon?

If the rumors are true, next week I will see a photograph of my future daughter for the first time. If the rumors are NOT true... well... happy April Fool's Day to me.

After stressing out completely these past three weeks, I somehow managed to achieve a zen-like calm yesterday afternoon. I don't know why that is except I like to be contrary. Although probably it's the Holy Spirit giving my poor husband a well-deserved break. *grin* Or maybe it's possibly that I'm conveniently redefining "zen-like calm." Because y'all? I talked on the telephone so! much! yesterday, all 3 - count 'em, THREE - phone batteries died. I blame Carla. And Lisa. A few of my local friends. And my mom, of course.

I'm thinking we'll receive a phone call on Monday or Tuesday, during which we will learn her name, birth date and where she's living. Knowing our agency, I don't think we'll see the completely translated referral packet, with photos, until at least Thursday or Friday.

We've been waiting and preparing for so long, it's hard to remember that this little one has not done the same. In a few short months, her world is going to completely turn upside-down. I feel such mixed emotions: happy that she has a chance at a family life, sad that she will lose so much in the process, afraid that we'll make irreparable mistakes during this difficult transition and elated that we'll soon have the privilege of caring for such a precious, treasured child.

And the Tongginator? The Tongginator just wants to go! to! China! to! meet! her! little! sister! She's been waiting her entire remembered childhood (since we completed our homestudy before her first birthday), but I think these last few weeks will feel the most difficult.

It's gonna feel like a long, long weekend.

What I'd love is if y'all would share YOUR referral stories with me. You can either leave a comment or link up below. These last few days will feel much shorter if you do. Oh, and send Krista some love, too. She's waiting by the phone just like we are. (And she'll post photos, too. While we may not. We aren't sure yet. So probably Krista will be your new best friend.)

Oh TM!!!! I am just SO happy for you and cannot wait! I always hated the weekends when we were waiting for Lizzie (hehe)! I am afraid I don't have a referral story because we found our Lizzie on a WC list but I can tell you that we were not thinking about China when we found her, we were not thinking (well hubby wasn't thinking) about special needs when we found her and yet, we found her - our daughter! Lizzie and my brother have very similar hands and feet (both had amniotic banding syndrome). As soon as I saw Lizzie's precious face, I had a feeling and as soon as I saw her hands and feet, I KNEW! She was the daughter we had been searching for, the daughter that the Lord had been preparing my heart for, my whole life! As soon as hubby saw her face, he knew and all his fears about SN's just faded away! It was amazing!

I cannot wait to hear about your newest precious addition, TM! You have got to video the moment!!! I know, I know, it will be of the backs of your heads but I will take what I can get! LOL!!

Because my story can never just be easy or straight forward, my referral post with Li'l E is actually part four of a series I had to journal and work through after our first failed referral and the back and forth that our agency AND our hearts had to process. And now? It was all worth it. Every.single.stinkin'.tear. And every sleepless night.

Thanks for forcing me to go look it up and re-read and re-process. It reminds me to be grateful. And that the journey is as precious as the destination - if we keep our hearts and minds open to it.

We always did this backwards - we found the child before we did the paperwork....but all three were SN adoptions and back then the rules were different too.

Marie found Brianna (the first) after we settled on an agency and there were no surprises with that - and Chase (the third) was pretty much the same way - and while he was an I800 adoption, we managed to hammer out all the bumps (he was one of the first ever and the very first 800 for our agency so we learned together.

Braelyn was a good story - I was a reluctant husband - Marie had been asking - I wasn't ready. Brianna was old enough to click the forward and back buttons on the web browser and Marie had been looking at the shared list waiting kids pictures. One night around bed time Brianna found Braelyn's picture and simply said "That's my sister, we can put a kiss on her ouch and she can play with my toys." I was impressed and amused with my darling daughter and dismissed the thought....

A couple nights later Brianna navigated to the same picture and said pretty much the same thing, I was worried that my girls were going to double team me on this adoption business....

And then a couple nights later still, Brianna did the same thing - messed with that laptop for a good 5 minutes until she found the picture a third time....

That was when I looked a Marie and simply said - "How many times do I need to hear His message - call the agency and start the home study renewal - and call the agency that has the file and request it - we've got another daughter waiting for us."

It got a little worse - Marie called the agency with Braelyn's file and discovered that there were 2 other families interested in the file and the decision could go to committe. They'd let us know....

Marie wrote an empassioned e-mail...

The day of the committe meeting (at 5 PM) came. It got to be 7:15 and we hadn't gotten 'the call'. Marie was near tears when I asked her where the agency office was - Nebraska or something - mountain time - it was only 5:15 their time and I assured her the committe was still meeting.

7:45 the phone rings, I answer, and hand the phone to Marie. After a minute the tears start, I'm devistated until I see her expression change and it's clear to me that Braelyn will be ours.

And yeah - I took pictures! The rest is - how they say - history!

Praying for your peace of mind - and hugs -

aus and co.

Love reading about your journey! We were expecting our referral on Friday, the opening day of the Chinese Olympics 08/08/2008 but then decided to drive to our agency's office in Orlando the following Tuesday to receive it in person. We got a flat tire within the first 30 minutes! After all that excitement at our agency and seeing AA's photo, we met up with other adopting friends in Orlando and then had a surprise late night family party at our grown daughter's home. What a day!! Ours is all detailed over several posts beginning 08/12/2008 on out blog.
Enjoy!
