A Mei Mei Book

It's slowly starting to feel real, y'all.

The Porsche of all baby carriers arrived at our house last week. My Ergo is plain-ole-brown, but it is beautiful. Because I know that I won't experience Intense Pain like I did when we traveled to China the first go-around. (I loathe the carrier I used with the Tongginator.)

We also received a huge surprise when the Tongginator's passport arrived less than two weeks after we submitted our application. She is so! very! excited! that the day is fast approaching. In fact, she is looking forward to the trip so much, she recently wrote this short story at school, which the school will eventually turn into a book with her own illustrations.

Soon I am going to meet my little sister in China. We are going to adopt her. I know what her name is going to be, but I'm going to call her mei mei. Our trip is going to be two weeks, but feel like one. My Grammy is coming with us. I know I will like it in the hotel. Mei mei is going to be very cute. I get to feed her, play with her and hold her when I'm sitting on the couch. I can't wait until I meet her. We are going to ride on an airplane for one whole day, which is going to feel long. We will try to look for my foster mommy in China. It is going to be a little hard though. I am going to walk on the Great Wall of China. I will get to try new foods. I am going to bring my carrier for my doll Ivy. I will carry Ivy while my Mommy carries mei mei. I am going to have lots and lots of fun on our trip!

Like I said... it's starting to feel real. Finally.

The ERGO Is awesome. LOVED IT>>>LOVED IT! Used it for a year and passed it along to another adoptive mum. Saved her back. Best buy ever.

We waited 4 years before we met our daughter and, had we not found her through the WC program we'd still be waiting (a year and a half later). I know what you mean about it beginning to feel real and yet, the experience was quite surreal for me. It's hard to beleive the moment you've waited for for so long is actually happening. BTW, I just purchased what is likely the same plain brown Ergo and love it!

So excited for your family...and especially for the Tongginator! Our daughter traveled with us (she was almost 5) last year when it was time to bring home our son, and it was the most exciting thing she has ever experienced. She could not wait to finally have a sibling, and I can not imagine if we had not taken her to be a part of the day we became a family of four. Our son's first smiles and tears came because of his jie jie!
It will be 2 weeks that your daughter will remember forever!
FYI, if the Tongginator is anything like my daughter, she was so excited about the trip she did not sleep AT ALL on either plane trip across the ocean! Pack lots of things to keep her busy!!! :-)

I LOVE our Ergo. Our first daughter loved to be carried around in it in China, and when we were back home. We purchased the black one so my husband felt comfortable wearing it as well.

Our second daughter however, was not a fan. She wanted to be carried in my arms, NOT in the Ergo - go figure (or in the side by side stroller with her sister). We have tried again since arriving home, but still a no go. Since she is having her surgery this week, I am going to pack it in the bag to go to the hospital hoping she might give it another go, and give my shoulders a bit of a break.

It sounds as if your little Tongginator is really able to conceptualize the trip. It shows that you are doing a great job preparing her for what is to come. Well done!

We have several baby carriers, but the Ergo is by far the most comfortable one, and my toddler loves being carried in it... hope Mei mei loves it too! =)

The ergo is FANTASTIC! I can still carry my 4 year old in it and will take it for her when we go to Guatemala in a couple of months.

Can you share a little about how you're preparing the Tongginator for the trip emotionally. I know it will be different in that you won't be meeting family but I'm still interested in your preparations if you feel comfortable sharing.

I cannot imagine what it feels like for it to feel real. Oh my! It has got to be exciting. The Tongginator is "going to have lots and lots of fun on your trip." No doubt about it.

I'm so glad we went with the Ergo, too. Take it from a physical therapist: it is just better to have your center of gravity in the center. One sided forces are TOUGH on your body & pull you out of alignment. And I'm so happy for your precious family! We know you're going to be busy, but I so hope that you're not going to go all Rumor Queen and fall of the radar for an eternity when you get your referral!

I love her story, and I'm excited for it to be real for everyone.

I bought an Ergo before going to Ethiopia to pick up our youngest son. I had a hard time shelling out that kind of money when I "survived" the first three kids without one. But, the thought of two days in airports made me bite the bullet and buy it ... and I'm sooooo glad I did, and kicking myself for not buying one sooner to use with my first three babies.

Congrats big sister! I'm sure you will take great care of mei mei

And yes, the ERGO rocks!

Yup the Ergo rocks big time! I still use ours now! I can not wait to see your family expand and grow in love!! :) This post just makes me smile.

yeah, I'm borrowing a plain ole Ergo for our trip too. Cause my back still isn't right from Caleb's trip back in '08 with our baby bjorn...
Oh I look forward to your blogging days when you describe the Togginator as the Jie Jie! She's gonna be a fun one!

scanning through all the messages...trying to catch up...stopping to stir my soup on the stove...back to reading.

The medical record post brought a tear to my eye. I agree TM and totally felt that surge of "no, not a single record can be left behind." I so understand (Just from my view from the cheering section on the sidelines of your life) but still, I understand why this is so important to you, mama. Love you.

Now secondly, I whooped out loud when I read this about about the passport, the carrier and the trip. Whooo hooo, ready to go!

Best,
Georgia Peach
