Sunday Linkage

As always, I don't necessarily agree or disagree with these links, but I believe they are important to consider. For those of you new around here, I'm an adoptive momma. Each Sunday I try to post links relevant to the China- adoptive community. I read some of these linkage posts while nodding my head in agreement... others stretch my mind as I seek to understand. Always, always, I consider them.

Not Always Love At First Sight -- adoptive momma (China) Malinda at Adoption Talk... on meeting our children for the first time

Pre-Conference Ramblings + Jitters -- first mother Suz at Writing My Wrongs... feelings and thoughts on the eve of her presentation at this conference

Jean Mercer talks about kids, parents, adoption and attachment -- adoptive momma (China) Jessica Pegis at O Solo Mama... Jessica interviews Dr. Mercer, author of several books, including "Understanding Attachment: Parenting, Child Care and Emotional Development"

Families, Not Orphanages -- adult adoptee (Korea) Melissa at Yoon's Blur... link and commentary about a recent report on adoption sponsored by the Better Care Network, an affiliate of UNICEF

Homeland Tours -- adoption researcher and adoptive parent (Korea) Dawn Davenport at Creating a Family... on taking your internationally adopted child back to the country of his or her birth

Primal Wound: Theory or Merely Anecdotal?
-- adult adoptee (Taiwan) Mei-Ling at Shadow Between Two Worlds... thoughts about the primal wound discussion that continually resurfaces in the adoption world

do orphans need "saving?" -- adoptive momma (foster to adopt and Haiti) Kristen at Rage Against the Minivan... responding to a comment referencing publicity surrounding an adoption conference and a reposting of "Reality is a Weighty Thing" by Heather Hendricks

The Trouble With No -- adoptive momma (China) Shirlee McCoy at And Then There Were Seven... another beautiful post about the attachment journey from Shirlee

I was wondering why there was less links than usual (or it appeared so to me), but I have already spent 2 1/2 hours just on the O Solo Mama and the Rage Against the Minivan link.

Loving these links. Thanks for making it easy for me to learn more. Of course I am picturing you sitting in a coffee shop in your Pajamas working on this post.

Tonggu Momma,

Thanks for linking. I just now caught this, but a minor correction, if you please...?

The report by the BCN, "Families, Not Orphanages" is actually, technically NOT a paper on adoption. Rather, it is a paper that examines the root causes of the proliferation and reliance on orphanages and what alternative solutions can be established. The report itself was not researched or written in relation to adoption. In other words, the purpose of the authors & the report have no direct connection to adoption. (Obviously, the report has implications and inevitably addresses circumstances that are related to adoption, but again, the purpose of the report had nothing to do with adoption...)

This is an important distinction. The paper addresses adoption only briefly--again, the main focus of the paper is on institutional care versus alternative family-based care...

So, if you get a moment, do you think you could change the brief description you give to match what the actual report examines...? Thank you!
