Hacked!

So... if you received an email from me at around 8:30 last night, with some weird link to a Computer Death Site, I seriously hope you didn't click on the link. (Please say you didn't! Please say you didn't!) Because my Tonggu Momma g-mail account got hacked along about then. They meandered into my contacts list and began sending mass spam emails.

Thankfully, Google discovered the situation in less than ten minutes and temporarily disabled my account. And no, I couldn't really warn y'all via email because I can't send out a mass email right now without Google thinking it's the spammers again.

It's all good now. I changed my password, this time incorporating not just case-sensitive letters and numbers, but also a few characters like ^#$*&@! as well. Take! That! you Evil Spammers. And now I shall spend the next week or two filled with agonized guilt that this may possibly have destroyed some beloved reader's home PC or laptop. I don't know what the Computer Death Site did, as I didn't click on the link, but I suspect it wasn't anything good. And if someone DID click on said Computer Death Site, they probably can't send me an email to let me know until their computer gets fixed.

Which might take days or even weeks. Commence! Fretting! Now!

Please reassure me that you never received such an e-mail or that, if you DID receive such an email, that you did NOT click on that link. The e-mail itself could not hurt your machine, but the linked site COULD if you clicked on it.

And - just for future reference - please know that I would never be so reticent as to send you a link with absolutely! no! commentary! or greeting of some sort. Because silent, I ain't. I tend to talk... and talk... and talk. And yes, this transcends all mediums, including e-mail.

This fact is probably why I'm not much of a Twitterer. Because it's way too stressful for my chatty self to edit to just 140 characters.

(Although those last two sentences would totally pass the Twitter test! Heh.)

Didn't get an e-mail from you, and I think my Mac would have eaten it up and spit it out.
I LURVE me my mac.

*gasp* OHNO!! as Mimi would say (with her hand over mouth.) Didn't get an e-mail, but man that stinks! How great that gmail got it sorted out. My friend's hotmail account was hacked a while back, and the spammers sent out an e-mail pleading for money- she was stuck in London, etc. I wrote back to her to say her account had been hacked...and the spammer WROTE BACK. "I really AM in London, help me!" So creepy, he'd changed the password so she couldn't get in.

I didn't get an email either but if I had then, like happygeek, my home account is Mac-ified so no worries there - if it knocked out my work PC then C'est la vie. Maybe then I could convince them that I really should be using a Mac there anyway.

Same thing just happened to my sister. I got some weird emails from her with no commentary, only a link. And I suspected something was up if she had no words. It runs in the family after all...
Sorry it happened to you!

I did get it...and unfortunately I did open it. Apparently it looked like a series of websites including your blog and growninmyownheart...Running a virus protector now..hopefully it will all be okay...=(

I didn't get any spam from you either. Had I, I'm not sure I would have clocked on a link called Computer Death, though. How could something called that be anything good? And like you said yourself, from you I'd expect some knd of comment to go along :)

I didn't get one from you either. You have to wonder why people would do that.

Hey TM - as a computer crime guy (yes - that's my alter ego, I'm a computer forensic analyist / kinda in house mal-ware guy) - this one isn't YOUR fault - it's google's. Put the blame where it belongs!

The computer death site shouldn't hurt a protected computer - and anyone using the web and e-mail had better be running an 'automatically updated and good quality anti-virus program' - and really a firewall as well.

Oh - and Mac users - you aren't safe anymore since the 'power mac' era started....your OS lives on hard drives just like us PC users and can be infected just as badly....oh - but yeah - there aren't many folks coding malware for macs....there aren't enough mac users to make it worth while! (he says while running in a zig zag pattern and ducking for cover and concealment as objects are thrown!!) ;)

hugs - aus and co.

I mustn't be in your address book? I didn't get something telling me such things :) Thank goodness at least...lol... as for Twitter... I tried that whole thing but like you... I just can't get into it... not enough room to chit chat :)

I didn't get one either, but, since I'm your momma, I got a SPECIAL email telling me NOT to open anything from you unless it sounded like you. You know, lots of words and all.

Aus, TM's uncle has the same occupation as you! He actually had Martha Stewart's computer in his hands at one time. Think about that!!!!

All good here too!

No spam from you. So glad google was on top of things! Someone hacked my hotmail account once, but hotmail didn't catch it--I did and I had to stop it. :( Bad for hotmail.

Nope, no links. I don't click on links anyway unless I am Absolutely Certain I know where it's from and it's clean, but I didn't even have to worry about it this time. So you can stop fretting over this computer, at least!

I got an actual email from you around 10:59. Do you ever sleep? But no spam! Or if I did, it went in my spam box. Which I didn't check. :)

And thank Goodness, because I totally lost two desktops a few weeks ago to a nasty virus and I think I might lose my mind if I lost my lap top too!

Nothing here. Maybe not many went out.

Safe and sound here. I did not receive an email from you. I wouldn't worry too much, it's not like it was your fault!

Count me in as a "non-receiver" as well!

Geez!! My blog got hacked into early last year. It was disturbing to have that happen...felt like an invasion of privacy. Sorry this happened to you!

I didn't receive anything, but I certainly have received my fair share of that stuff over the past few months. Now I recognize it immediately and just delete it. I'm feeling sad right now cause I was really liking that Aus guy until he dissed my precious MAC!!

I feel all left out, I didn't get an email either!

If it's any consolation though, you'll always be a twit to me. ;)

fear not. I had no email from you and thus, did not click on any deadly links. Although, I think this means I'm not saved in your address book. . . [pout] : )

Didn't get anything from you either last night and i have a g-mail account too. I may have to go change up my password to avoid the same issues. Mine isn't easy to figure out what if I added some numbers and such it would make it even harder.

Nothing here...gosh I hate that freaky stuff! ugh.

Nothing here....and I have gmail too. Hmm...

But I hear you on the Twitter thing. I haven't gotten into that. Facebook, yes.

I can't even limit myself to the text characters allowed when I text my teens. I don't think I can handle Twitter too!

I didn't get the nasty gram either. I did have someone hijack my OLD hotmail account a few months ago. Pain in the butt! I had to change EVERY password on EVERY account I have on-line (because I'm kind of anal) spent an entire Saturday doing that and still can't remember what I changed them all to;)

Needless to say - I deleted the contacts from the old account and changed the name to "Not Sharie" Haven't opened it since, so hopefully it will go away after being unused.

What a bummer. I didn't get an email either. It stinks that there are malicious people out there doing stupid stuff like that.
