A New Do

I really haven't won much in my life. Before I entered the blogging world, I could count on one hand the number of times I won a contest or a raffle or (heh) an athletic event. Until three years ago, the most interesting thing I ever won was a fruit basket in the second grade because I drew a picture of anthropomorphic bananas and apples dancing around a breakfast table, with musical notes floating above a boom box in the corner.

I know.

Since I began blogging, I've tried to keep my name-in-real-life as separate as possible from my Tonggu Momma (TM) nickname. I mean, my poor Tongginator... no one wants to be known as the daughter of THIS mom. This means, however, that I don't really enter give-aways all that often. *sob* And, while I have won a few things, I almost always contact the giver and ask that they send along the prize to someone else... someone I love who deserves a little treat.

Not! This! Time!

Y'all, I actually won Stefanie's blog make-over give-away. Oh yes, I did. Which is wonderful because Stefanie actually knows who I am in real life. We've never met face-to-face, but we HAVE talked on the phone since I've helped her just a bit with No Hands But Ours. So she knows me... er... sort of... which means I get to KEEP THIS GIFT FOR MYSELF!

(I am all about me. Can you tell?)

So what do y'all think of my blog's new look? To be honest, this feels a lot more "me" than my previous one. And Colleen? Was ridiculously easy to work with. I don't say that lightly. I mean, just try to imagine this poor woman having to deal with my sensory self.

"Umm... okay... so... I don't want anything too fru-fru or flowery, but I don't want boring either. And I have Absolutely! No! Ability! to visualize anything, so I won't be able to tell you if I love it or I hate it until I actually see it."

I'm telling ya - Colleen? Is an angel. And she's very talented, too. She's the one who designs all of those gorgeous Wild Olives tees. I know! So now my new best friends are Stefanie, her son Asher (who totally pulled my name out of the hat) and the amazingly talented Colleen, who gave me a brand-new blog look I adore.

Don't feel left out though. Y'all can be my new best friends, too, if you gush about my new look (because Colleen totally deserves to feel appreciated) or if you share with me the posts I've written that made you laugh the most or think the most or whatever. I'm trying to create a links list of favorites (yours, not mine!) so that newish people can navigate the site a bit better.

Since I think the vast majority of my stuff is inane drivel, I need a little help.

I mean, if you don't mind.

I like it! Can't wait until you have two girls' pictures up in that header. :)

I really like your new look! I love the bamboo big O, the little dynamite sticks for I's, and the ancient coins for the small O's. :)

Very nice. This is totally you. The banner is perfect.

TM - I wish I knew you IRL - it would make the blog / TM comparison easier - but one thing is certain (really two) - 1) LOVE the new look - it is simple and impressive all at the same time. But the geek in me loves #2 more - 2) great coding in the background! Love the java pop to a new browser for links in a post (suggest an auto-resize to full screen - but that's a personal preference thang I guess) - yep - really great bloglift - props to (Colleen?)the coder!

hugs - aus and co.

Very nice chick! It takes a little bit longer to load for me (Stefanie's does too) but that might be my IE! The banner is too cute. And I see you got panda's in it too...

Hugs,
Carla

Oh goodness! How nice to win something so cool!! I think your designer did a great job. I like it, but it will take me a few more minutes to cleanse my pallet from the old site - which I also liked.

Initial thoughts...The green is you. The header is creative. I love the white space!!! Side nav bar is engaging and playful which is a nice combination. Also on the side nav bar, I love the look of the font which seems equally hurried and feminine.

One word of critique...I would settle on one sans serif font and go with that. You're using (I believe) Helvetica in the titles and Century Gothic in the text and top nav bar. I'd settle on one or the other.

Oh, and a word to Colleen: Nice work on TM's site...and I Love Wild Olive Tees!

Very nice. I am very jealous. I want to learn how to do this so bad. But alas...I suffer from the exact same description you gave for what you wanted. I laughed when I read it because I had a freind design a banner for me once and thats about exactly what I told her. Too funny!

Wow it's gorgeous, my dear. Lucky you. I am like you, hardly ever win anything and nothing big. My Mom, on the other hand, wins everything. I am not kidding. I keep telling her she should play the lottery.

I love it...can I be jealous of a blog makeover? LOL! I really need to get one myself, but know that my hubby will consider that a want...not a need. What does he know anyway?

Love the new look:) As I shared yesterday, I loved your April 20 post. I even linked it from my blog. It's made me think really hard, which is a good thing:)

BTW, I'm not sure why you would feel hypocritical for still waiting for your daughter. In fact, I think it's the opposite because while you recognize the importance of keeping first famlies together, you also realize that when this isn't possible that it's important for kids to be in families.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I had to say it.

Heh. I just read Aus's comment, about code and other such gobbedly gook and had NO. IDEA. WHATSOEVER. what he's talking about. Except that I agree - LOVE the new look :) Seriously, I think that Colleen is some sort of both-brained genius. To design t-shirts AND that code stuff that Aus is talking about too? Wow.

Love it. So classy. My fave? The tea cups in blue and white are so perfect. And the bamboo "O" :) It's the little things that get me.

Really lovely look. Colleen did great, I will go check out her site. (although I must admit I thought I got the wrong site at first! lol)

It's amazing. I saw it last night. Me and the hubs had a long talk about adoption and the church and the ideal world and the real world and our responsibilities and it was, well...not fun...but good.
And I referenced YOUR blog post...thus seeing the new do!
And the new do...looks good on you!

I love the new look. I don't know you irl, but this "feels" more you. (I wondered about the name of your blog when I first stumbled upon it. . .etc.) Favorite posts. . .hm. . .I'm still really liking the post-it, but I have a very short-term memory. . . Congrats on the new look--I love it!

Ok, it is all your fault that I have spent way too long (all of nap time) here on your blog reading past entries. I have both laughed and cried! I still think one of my favorite stories is the one your husband wrote about your embarassing moment. I wish they were in book form...really, I would buy your book!!

Just one comment for change--the links inside your posts have very light colors and it's hard to read them, I've been holding the mouse cursor over them to see them better, but that just makes them a pale green.

BTW--the links on the left had side are great. I've enjoyed reading the SPD stuff. Didn't realize how much my DD fits that definition/diagnosis. She is still working on some areas but they aren't crucial for operating in this world so going slowly with them is ok with me.

Love it!! Was wondering if got a new "do" to go with your new clothes and we'd actually see your hair, but guess not! :)

I was thinking that perhaps the Tongginator had donated her hair to Locks of Love...Nice to see the blog re-do:)

The fact that I can't even remember what your old blog looked like should tell you that this one is MUCH more you.

I LOVE the photos for links!

You already know that I love the new look...but I'm trying to think of favorite posts. All I'm coming up with are the many FAHBULOUS Miss T stories - the wedgie on the plane, the storming of the Sesame Place stage and of course, the time you met the awesome AUNT! LOLO! all come to mind. heh

Oh, and if you made a section for the books you like, for kids, to teach about China? TOTALLY would be cool. (Like your Awards page.)

And you totally can't forget the one about the laundry. Because THAT rocks.

Looks like your luck has CHANGED, Little Lady!

I am COMPLETELY IN LOVE with the new look...now, mind you, I did love the old look and I'm not big on change. I also must tell you that this reminds me of when I lose weight and people say "oh, you lost a lot of weight" and I think to myself...wow, they must really have thought I was fat before!

Now don't get me wrong...I completely dug the old OLT...but THIS, well, TM, this has taken things to a NEW level!

Outstanding! I just think this is INCREDIBLE..AND I'm so proud of you for actually FINALLY accepting something special just for YOU!

Congratulations!!

Hugs,
Dita
