Today I Will...

... spend the entire morning dressed in pajamas because the Tongginator does not have school - which totally stinks because it's a furlough day for the teachers. And the Tongginator's teacher? Is a single mom with two children who hasn't received a raise in a dozen years because of budget constraints. And this year she won't even get a cost of living raise. AND one of her children is turning 18 next month, which means child support payments will stop, but her daughter won't graduate from high school until June. To teachers everywhere: I am So. Very. Sorry. that we in American society treat our educators so poorly. I think I will go back to bed and pull the covers over my head.

... take a nap because Tonggu Grammy just picked up the Tongginator for a fun-filled weekend with grandparental units and one M&M (note to others: M&M is the Tongginator's three-year-old cousin).

... feel intense joy that others FINALLY stop asking me why I look so pale and tired. Four days of antibiotics? Works!

... thank God for all y'all who sent love and hugs to Rosie's family, friends and neighbors. This was a tough week to get through, so I thank y'all for putting up with my non-blog visiting and complete lack of response to your comments. I read and appreciated every single one. And I'll be back next week a tad bit more together... I hope?

I got first comment? Wow - I'm shocked! Ya'll just keep feeling better and worry 'bout us bloggers later - we love ya and understand not being around! And while I'm at it - I'll throw a little blessing toward the GP units - ain't that just grand? (Sorry - I'm in a punny mood today....ow - I did it again....)

hugs - aus and co.

Glad you are FINALLY starting to feel better! Enjoy your restful day!!

I hear ya on the disgrace of the low-wage teachers...I don't think there is anyone on the earth who couldn't say a teacher inspired them in some way or another. Teachers are awesome!

As a teacher, thanks. ;o)

I must say that a father who would stop assisting his child just because she turns 18 knowing good and well that she's still in high school and needing financial help is a pretty poor excuse for a father. My husband still remembers how awful he felt everytime he listened to his father complain about child support payments. The message he got was that his father didn't think he was worth it.

So. Feeling better? That's good. T going to grandparents? That's awesome. Finish resting up and enjoy the weekend. It's going to be cold, rainy and windy here - I'm in for the rest of the weekend baking and cooking my brains out :)

Oh, and the teacher thing? Ugh. We're in the midst of contract negotiations gone to arbitration - it's tense and divided here in our district - no one can agree on anything. I give teachers a LOT of kudos - it's the 2nd toughest job out there. After parenting. :)

So glad you've got some antibiotics running through you. Take the weekend to get better!

As for the educators in our country and the way they are treated....um don't get me started. It turns my stomach and makes my hackles stand on end! Furlough days are absolutely the worst...our district did those two years ago but the teachers STILL HAD TO COME TO WORK!!!! Yup...school was still in session on those 13 days. Nice way to treat the wonderful people who are educating the future of this country. Like I said, don't get me started!

Just a comment on the child support thing. Not sure where you live but in Texas you pay child support until June AFTER the child turns 18 (if they are in school). My stepson turns 18 on Sept 5th but we will pay through the following June. I think that is how it should be everywhere.

Glad you are feeling better -

I'm so glad you are feeling better! And I am really sorry about Rosie. I cannot imagine how difficult must have been (and still is) for you and her family and everyone who loves her.

Woo-hoo. Enjoy your weekend - any special plans with TD? Our teachers deserve more, the school boards and administrators should give their salaries to our teachers.

Yippee for antibiotics!!! Glad you're feeling better and think it's awesome that you're spending the day in your pj's - everyone should do that every once in awhile! Enjoy your quiet weekend.

Regarding teachers... hubby and I both have degrees in education but neither of us teach. When we graduated from a Christian university years ago, no one needed teachers (unlike the shortage of today) and the only one who wanted to hire us was small, private schools who also wanted to pay us so poorly that we would have literally been living below the poverty level for our state. I think that says a lot about us as a country - and I'm certain the lack of fair pay has contributed to the current shortage of educators.

See you 'round next week, friend!

One year seems like a long time until you lose someone so special....it must seem like yesterday to you and her family.

I hope you have a peaceful weekend and get some rest. I am so thankful you are feeling better my friend.

I agree, teachers in the U.S are paid poorly. My brother lives there and has told me about it. We live in Canada where teachers are often envied because of their high salaries. They deserve it. I hope the States realizes it soon. Otherwise, I LOVE the U.S.!!

It was a furlough day for us too here in Georgia. Lovely. But it gave me four days at home with my kids.....but with less pay.

Trying to get caught up on my reading. I haven't gotten very far. :-)

Enjoy your weekend!!!

It's about time you start taking care of YOU, TM.

TG has it all sewn up with Little T...that I know for SURE.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the sad state of affairs for the educators in our country. What an incredibly important job which is often rewarded by thankless parents who don't even stop to think.
