Oxen and Dogs and Pigs, Oh My!

No, I'm not talking about the Chinese Zodiac, although I can see why you'd think that. But no, not a one of us in Tonggu House is an oxen or a dog or a pig. Because the Tongginator? Is a monkey... and yes, she chatters as much as one. And the husband? Is a rooster... and yes, he wakes up as early and easily as one. And me? I'm a tiger... and yes, I'm as temperamental as one.

But you'd already figured that out, hadn't you?

No, I'm talking about oxen and dogs and pigs for an entirely different reason. You see, I have come to the conclusion that the Tongginator has the constitution of an ox. Oh yes, she does. Because last weekend? When we were at the lake visiting with my cousins? She had watery eyes and was a bit congested. She also seemed unusually tired. The husband and I figured that our little five-year-old powerhouse was allergic to my aunt's cats and tired after her Very First Week of School.

Makes sense, right?

Only now I'm thinking we were wrong.

Because I am as sick as a dog. I've got the exhaustion, the aches, the fever, the congestion, the (sorry, y'all) vomiting and the cough. On Thursday, when I asked the Tongginator, "sweetie, when you didn't feel well at Great Aunt P's house, did your body ache?" And the Tongginator turned to me - stunned - and said, "yes!!!" in an amazed, "how did you know?!?!!!" voice.

I am a terrible momma who doesn't deserve such a non-whiny child.

So have you figured out yet what I have? You might have spotted the photo in Pug Mama's 3 Word Sunday slide show. Yep, it was me. I'm the one. Tonggu Momma is:

Oink. Oink. Oink. Someone please put me out of my misery. And explain to me why the Tongginator barely skipped a beat, while I am racked out on the couch, a whining and shivering mess. Anyone?

We have Roto virus here and Emily hasn't showed signs of it at all!

Was this the weekend of being with your cousins and the Possible Prince Charming or whatever his name was? That is probably why she overcame feeling bad.

Feel better, TM. Get lots of rest, and don't worry about things at home until you're up on your feet again. Save all your energy for the blog!

Oh, hugs to you and hope you feel better soon. Rest well.

Just thought I'd share: A friend whose daughter had been going to the doctor's almost every month had started taking Sambucol (a natural supplement with elderberry extract) and ever since, she hasn't been to the doctor even once! We have it, too, only we aren't as diligent about taking it every day, but at the first sign of malaise, we (us and the kids) take it and I swear, it's kept the bugs away. So far.

Oh no! That sucks. Big T is concerned that Little T will get this because her immune system isn't up to par yet. All I can do is pray she doesn't.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hugs,
Carla

Oh yuck! Sorry you're feeling rotten! It's going around the schools here. All of DD's friends have had it. Our ped. said it is usually milder than regular flu for the kids...I guess not for the grown-ups, though. Hugs and prayers.

Oh no.

May your bed be soft and your daughter compliant.

Oh dear, prayers for a quick recovery are headed your way! Kids are amazing, aren't they? Mine never fail to amaze me in what they tolerate...

Hope you feel better soon. Glad little T has fared much better. But don't panic. Losers at CDC and WHO have blown this type of flu way out of proportion. They do that every few years when they need renew their research budget. We all have survived deadly West Niles virus, Bird Flu, and numerous other forgotten deadly new flus. What would we do without CDC and WHO?

G is an ox as well. I once had some horrible thing that made me so sick I lost big chunks of time. G? sat on the floor and watched TV quietly for a day. ONE day. I was dying for THREE days and miserable nights (plus the long tail of 'getting over it'). A better mother would have rejoiced in her child's remarkably robust constitution. Me? Grumble grumble.

The good thing is you are in the age group of those who only suffer 3-4 days - and it does get worse before it gets better. LOTS of fluids...a friend of mine drank Pedialite - gross but it helped.

FEEL BETTER!

Oh No!! We just all had to get fitted on our unit at work today for special masks, just in case the swine flu hits. Sounds like it might be on it's way!

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo......I'm so sorry to hear this! Swine flu scares me and I'm glad it didn't cause TG to hardly miss a beat! Wow!

You take care, okay? I mean it!! :) See, we dogs, usually easy going & affible, can be firm and stubborn too! ;)

Oh no! What a bummer!

And yeah, it's amazing what the kids can pull off. What gets me is, even if they are really sick and act it, next day they're fine. It takes me days to recover.

Get well soon!

Oh, yuck. Thank goodness that Tongginator breezed through it.

What's funny to me is that I am ox, and Sera is a dog. Oh my!

I cannot believe she barely skipped a beat and it only appeared to be allergies......gosh, the girl has strength!!

So sorry to hear that you are down for the count with the dreaded flu....get better soon!! If I were a little closer, I would whip up my Italian Grandmother's cure all, Chicken Noodle Soup and bring it right over!

Hugs,

Lisa

It always goes that way...your kids bring it home and you come down with it ten times worse than they did.
We had the SF in China. I'm breathing easy this fall while everyone around me is coming down with it. Z-Pack sister...get it PRONTO.

Sorry you're sick. :-( Hope you feel better soon. Our junior Tongginator is also an ox. She doesn't keep anything illness- wise for long, if she gets it. We had a stomach virus over our Christmas vacation last year, and she was the only one in the house who didn't get it.

Well, of course she didn't get it...don't you know by now Tongginators don't get it! Those germs fear Tongginators!

Now TMs...we'll that's another story.

You poor baby! I remember the last time you were sick and veggin' out on the couch all cuddled up with barely an eyelid lift and you were really out of it. I hope this isn't the same and that you don't start oinking since I know you snort already.

Is Tonggu Grammy anywhere near and might she risk the swirling viral load in your home to come in and rescue her own TM baby?

Sending you hugs, TM!

Dita

Oh girl - I have it too! I got hit bad Saturday night - the throwing up, everything. I couldn't get out of bed on Sunday at all. It's Tuesday now and I still don't feel like eating much. Hang in there. I hope we both feel better soon.

Janet said...

I have one non-complainer too. He pretty much has to be lying in a pool of his own blood before he'll utter a peep. My other kids? Whiners. :-)

Oh, boy, I sure hope you feel better soon! I know what you mean about oxen, though. Danny never gets sick. Once about three years ago there was a really bad flu going around town. Danny got it and seriously was better within 24 hours. and even when he was sick it didn't really slow him down much. Then, Bil and I got it and it knocked us on our tails for days. We couldn't believe it. I guess that's good that the kids are pretty resistant.

Take care of yourself!

Oh TM, I heard you were sick, but just look at ya girl!
Those eyes are so puffy LOL.

Gee whiz, hope you're feeling better soon.
