Across the Generations

This past weekend, during our trip to my aunt's lake place to hang out with my cousins, I spent quite a bit of time talking with my eighteen-year-old cousin who was adopted from Korea. To hear her thoughts... and mine... about adoption and family and a few things in between, head over to my post Across the Generations at the group adoption blog Grown In My Heart.

My cousin Sleeping Beauty with the Tongginator on my aunt's boat.

I just LOVE this photo of them together... don't you?

Love the pic! And Sleeping Beauty, know that the Tongginator doesn't hand out hugs to just anyone.

I liked your post very much. Your cousin is beautiful and the girls certainly do share some GORGEOUS heads of hair! You're blessed to have you cousin to share her thoughts on adoption as Miss T grows up.

Love the picture of the two of them. They have the same hair! T is blessed to be in a family where she isn't the only one to join the family through adoption - and you are blessed to be able to have someone so close to be able to ask the deep questions of without fear of offense.

Have a great weekend!

(School still going well?)

Your post was beautiful. I am lucky enough to have a former co-worker who adopted 4 children from Korea. Her youngest M and I have stayed in touch over the years and she just graduated college. Although we don't get to see M often enough, it's great for Amelia to have that older role model. Amelia knows that she can always talk to me about anything, but I've also let her know that if she needs to talk to someone about adoption or missing her China family M will understand and will be there for her. She isn't family, but close enough in my book. M's working toward her doctorate in psychology, (one smart cookie!) Right now her attitude is similar to your cousin.

We have another family friend however who was adopted from Korea as an infant, who at 15 still has abandonment issues. I have only had a chance to talk to him a few times about his adoption and the race issue, it's been interesting to see his perspective since he attends school in the same district Amelia will. This poor kid has a lot of questions and doesn't feel like his adoptive mother listens to him or takes him seriously, that is hard to see...I think he has been shocked with how open I am with Amelia, but I also think it's good for him to see that it's ok to talk about. Really a lot to deal with - I feel for him!

I'm heading over there now but had to say, what a gorgeous niece. And what a blessing for little T to have her in her life. You can see the love!
