Peter Pan? Hopefully!

On Sunday, a small moment with the Tongginator turned into a near heart attack for her daddy. She ran to look outside our window, you see, but the Vortex of Vomit (otherwise known as our cat Rusty) stood in the way. The Tongginator screeched to a halt a scant eighteen inches from Rusty, explaining, "I don't want to chase the cat." I beamed at her, then praised her for acting so grown-up.

TONGGINATOR: (looking at me askance) But Momma, I don't want to be a grown-up.

TONGGU MOMMA: Oh, honey... you aren't going to be a grown-up for a long, long time. When Momma said that, I meant that you made a good choice, so it shows me you are becoming a big kid... ready for kindergarten.

TONGGINATOR: But Momma, I don't want to grow up. I just want to be a big kid.

TONGGU MOMMA
: Everyone grows up, Tongginator, but you don't have to worry about that for a long, long time. You'll be a big kid for many... MANY... more years.

TONGGINATOR: Well, I don't EVER want to be a grown-up. I want to be a kid forever.

TONGGU MOMMA: Okay.

TONGGINATOR: (as she's walking out of the room) Also, I want to be a mommy when I'm a big kid, too. But I never want to be a grown-up.

And that's when the Husband's heart stopped. For about five seconds. I looked at his ashen face, complete with "I just might need to throw up" expression, and I laughed.

TONGGU MOMMA: (talking directly to Tonggu Daddy) Peter Pan, honey. Think Peter Pan... not teen pregnancy.

TONGGU DADDY: (always eloquent) Okay. Yeah. Peter Pan. Okay. Good.

Hopefully he's recovered by now.

That's funny. And I'm right there with the Tongginator: I don't ever want to grow up either!

There will be many more of those heart stopping moments for you, TD....fasten your seatbelt for the ride of your life!

I agree with Dita - you have your handsful. It's funny - we are seeing things Little T is doing that neither of the boys did! We've been through this twice already AND with boys but she is taking us for another ride!

Funny - your DH has a heart attack thinking about teen pregos. We had a heart attack when my son told us his girlfriend was pregnant. (He was 18, she was 19) Now, a year later, I can't imagine our lives without our little Hannah.

Hugs,
Carla

OH MY!!! ROFL!
At least yours wants to have children. My JB has informed us that she does not want to have any babies, she does not want her stomach split open (I have no idea where she got that idea) and that she is not going to change diapers. When I try to explore her thoughts I just get a wrinkled nose and and adamant declaration that she is not having kids. At least there is hope for grandchildre from EB!

Your poor husband...LOL! I'm sure Tonginnator will say many more things that will make you both drop your jaw. Kids keep us on our toes, that's for sure. I do admire her attitude...there's nothing wrong with being young at heart. I don't like being a grown up sometimes too.

This was a laugh outloud post!!!

Tell T Daddy to get use to it - she'll give him many, many more of these moments as she grows into a big kid. Trust me... I know of what I speak! Ha!

Blessings!

Oh, the T --bless her, she wants to be a mommy.

Somehow that sentence resonated differently with TD. Lol! Most probably all other daddies out there would have reacted the same way, too.

That is to cute... you can tell her I am still a big kid - at least most of the time :) You can grow up and still be a big kid... if she is Peter Pan... she will need a Tinkerbell - of course :)

LOL! Daddies are just too easy when it comes to little girls. I think I get more laughs out of hubs reactions than I do out of the antics that caused them.

Your husband is so sweet...Dan is in denial about Grace growing up.

I don't want to grow up either and still feel like I'm about 12. I'm not sure I always like being a grown up. ;)

Too funny!!

In TD's defense, my heart sank a little when I read that, so I can only imagine how it sounded to TD!!

Little Tongginator,

In the same way you long to remain a child, your momma will sometimes long to return to these simple days of your sweet years in childhood. Then she will read these things she has recorded of you and of her when you were both young...And she will cry happy tears :)!

Hehe. T cracks me up! My Ilsa doesn't want to be a grown-up either. She's quite adamant about it and has been for years. She's 12 now, so it's staring her in the face, but she plans to remain childlike forever.

Oh my, love it! Love the story, I could just see it unfolding. Could even see TD's face.

T cracks me up, what will she come up with next? (Although I am sure TM will tell us, chuckle!)

Cheers, Kiy

Toooo funny! Yeah, the 'boys'can be pretty naive when it comes to their little darlins. They'll need to brace themselves, me thinks.

Don't be too harsh on my parents for this, but...

I have a feeling, in my house, if I had become a Mommy before I was a Grown up...I wouldn't have had to worry about becoming a grown up. I wouldn't have been given the chance to finish growing up! LOL

Oh yes the heart stopping moments...
I'm picturing her stomping out of the room wearing a frown and her arms crossed in front of her. LOL

I can see how that statement can make a stomach turn. LOL!

My hubby is still not really a grown up. So it is possible. ;) Don't tell him I said that.

That is hilarious! I can just visualize the expression on your hubby's face.

Marla said...

Hahaha, too bad the camera wasn't handy to catch that expression. :) Poor Daddy.

LOL! Oh, that is SO funny! I remember Sarah saying something like, "I can't wait to have a baby! I'm not even gonna get a husband first!" I almost fell over. LOL!

Sharie said...

See I went to the funny thing - that she can't have a baby and stay little - my mind won't let me go to the other deadly place.

I do have to say that Amelia always worries about when she grows up and where she is going to live and who she is going to live with and what she is going to be - - I have the opposite problem, my 4 year old is 40!
