Marching Madness
Y'all already know that the Husband is a Total Enginerd. What you may not know is that the Husband survived three years of high school as the Band Geek to end all Band Geeks. Case in point:

See what I mean? He actually led his high school band as the drum major. So... while my immature, mean-spirited, snotty high school self looked down on the amazingly nice and smart band geeks at my high school, the love of my life suffered through torment from other insecure and obnoxious teens at his high school.
I think my high school years as a Snob Against Band Members stemmed from this:

I always wanted to play the flute, but they forced me to play the trumpet. Grr... For more embarrassing childhood memories, check out Sincerely Fro Me To You at We Are THAT Family.

I did play the flute.
There's a lot of squeaking involved.
TD's uniform is kickin.
I have pictures of my band geek husband that rival yours! LOL! I wouldn't have even glanced his way in high school, but wouldn't trade him for the world now! (well maybe for the WORLD, but you get where I am headed! haha!)
You are so funny.....I was a band geek...but band was cool where I went to school because we were so awesome. I played the Flute.....first chair actually.....it came easy to me.....I hope you have seeked counseling for your traumatic band experience. ;)
She probably needs counseling for her traumatic band experience but WE needed much more for the suffering we experienced during her practice time. She was diligent but, fortunately for her, tone deaf. I fear that I may have damaged her permanently by suggesting that she practice outdoors. Thank God for His grace as I know He has forgiven me. TM is another story!
You look lke a cute, keener!

No band experience here. But your pictures where great!
That picture was funny, but your inserted text were even funnier!!
TG's comment is classic...you are quite the family....I love it!!

That is an amazing picture of your hubby! I was in band (briefly) in junior high. Clarinet, if you must know. My Christian school was so small that band was our only extracurricular activity, so we were actually the "cool" kids! ;)
Wow-wee....that's a lot of awards the hubs has there! And I heart the Don Johnson hair.
I was forced to play the clarinet and wanted to play the trumpet! *sigh*
M play trumpet AND tuba through junior high - she gave it up in high school, too much going on, but loved it.
As a piano player, I opted for drums in junior high, and then took a stab at French horn, which I really enjoyed. But I always wanted to play the flute, too, and a couple years ago when a friend was selling hers, I bought it. Haven't started lessons yet, but they're on the "after retirement" list.
Awww...isn't it funny how the "cool" people picked on the band kids and the ROTC kids...but they're the ones who grew up to rule the world?! I always told my oldest to be a nerd. They write the paychecks for the rest of the losers.
Sorry you didn't get to play the flute!
MAN he was good at it! Look at all those awards!
Too bad you didnt get to play the flute. I guess, it doesnt mean you cant play it now though?
I pretended to play the flute. I'm not even kidding. I'm so not musical so I just sat there in the 5th grade, moving my fingers up and down acting as if I knew what I was doing. The band teacher got used to me being "sick" every time I was scheduled for a lesson.
That said, I'm thinking your husband rocks. My BIL is a marching band director and he would think all those trophies were AWESOME! :)
Wow, he looks quite serious!!!
Ppphhht. This is where our friendship comes to a squeakin' halt. LOL 4 years (plus middle school) I listened to those of you tormenting me! 4 years!!! Then I even signed on for some of college. JK!!!!
Of course I married a football jock. Well, he was an oddity - he had brains!
You know TM, you look really cute with that trumpet but a clarinet or flute would have looked better. ;)
and WOW...Bands of America trophies?! You could send him some band geek flair, just picked one out last night for myself - something about Band Geeks know One more time means at least 10 more times.
I wasn't in band and now wish I had played some kind of instrument. I WAS one of those immature, snotty(though not always), insecure high school girls who didn't date band guys. I married the high school jock who also happened to be a science-nerd. And enginerds are just fine in my book now. Funny post. What a cute pic of you in band TM!
Oh bless your heart, I played the trumpet also, so I know how you feel. After 8th grade, I ran as far away from band as I could go.
lol! how cute!!
I'm tone deaf (at least that's what I was told by my siblings who are musical)
Love the pictures!
Glad you too have each other!
Oh how I envied those cheerleaders and flag twirlers in those short skirts as I wore my band uniform. Sigh... Want to hear something funny though? Seriously. Every time I see a parade and hear/watch a marching band, I cry. I can't control it! As soon as those drum cadences start up, I'm fighting tears and hoping no one is watching me!
It is my son's DREAM to play the trumpet. Bad geeks are the new cool. :-)
PS_ I wouldn't give up my enginerd for anything. :-)
I do think my enginerd would get along with yours. :) He played the sax and was the drum major.
Like father, like son, our son plays the sax and I think he probably wants to be the drum major this year or next.
Very cute photo of TM!
I too was a band geek, though I didn't achieve the status of your hubby. (check out all those medals, wow!)
I remember as a freshman having a BAAAAAAAD crush on our drum major. By the time I was a junior, I was making fun of the current drom major (behind closed doors cause I wasn't openly mean - just a hypocrite). Such is the cycle of life in High School.
I played the flute for 10 years. It was college band that convinced me to put it down forever.
Would it be rude if I'm chuckling at your husband right now???
I look back now and wish so bad I would have taken an intrest in music!!! I'm musically challanged.....and can't carry a note in a bucket.
Tonggu Momma has a beautiful smile ;O)
You look way better than I did with a snare drum! Way better!
i played the flute for a while. or i tried anyway. it made me lightheaded and i had to quit. (!)
Hee love the photos!!
Never met a band geek before, our school did not have a band!
Happy New year to you and your lovely family
LoveJules
PX love TG comment
Hey, I have given birth to a drum major and hopeful future band director. Watch what you say over there:)
Look at you... little cute trumpet player. And hey, who doesn't love a man in uniform? Seriously. Especially one with all of those trophies.
Seriously? The flute? The trumpet? ME TOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! It's a conspiracy by band nerds who become band teachers.
I was a total band nerd and I will be bringing those photos to the carnival sometime soon. But your husband totally kicks my sorry butt - look at all those awards. My nerdiness brings me to envy (oh, and I played the flute, it was pretty fun, but I wish I had played the French Horn - whatever).
I played the clarinet - I secretly wanted to play the flute too!
Now please don't take this wrong, but I can visualize you enthusiastically blasting away on a trumpet a lot easier than I can visualize you daintily trilling away on some frilly little flute!
A flute is just not EXPANSIVE enough for an expressive soul such as yourself! I'm sure that is what your parents were thinking when they forced you to "settle" for the trumpet!
I got ya beat, my husband is....A BAND DIRECTOR!!! We met when we worked a band camp togther!!
I married a band geek too, but I never singled them (band geeks) out to be recipients of my condescension, so I didn't have any residual Band Snobbery Guilt to work out in my marriage. No, I scorned at least a few classmates of every social rank; I was an Equal Opportunity Mocker.
And if it makes you feel any better, I had unfulfilled school dreams too. I really, really wanted to take Italian as my foreign language, but my High School only offered Spanish and French. Stupido! (And no, I don't remember a lick of FOR REAL Spanish. Obviously.)
