10 Years Together

I know this might come as a shock to some, but the husband and I are sadly lacking in the romance department. You might be thinking, "come on, how bad could it be?" Well... we went to a Washington Bullets basketball game on our first date. We waited a week after our wedding ceremony to actually leave for our honeymoon because the dates seemed more practical. We've never eaten a fancy dinner (either dining in or out) on Valentine's Day or New Years.

It's simply not us (okay, okay) it's simply not me.

But this weekend the husband proved - yet again - that he is my Mr. Wonderful. And that he sometimes knows me better than I know myself. He surprised me on Friday evening with a romantic message inside a tenth anniversary card. Well... technically it was a Valentine's Day card he bought back in February of 2008 and forgot to give me, but whatever. It was still a card, which is more than I managed. And his card also contained a sweet, sweet surprise.

He took me to Baltimore for the weekend, which is really just a stone's throw from our house, but it didn't matter. Because our house doesn't have views like this:

And our house isn't a block away from this:

Which is doubly romantic because we ate at the original Roy's restaurant while on our honeymoon in Hawaii ten years ago. We enjoyed a scrumptious and romantic dinner before ruining it all by going to see the new James Bond flick. Because, while Australia WAS playing in the same theater, that movie didn't start until 9:40 PM... and it's nearly three hours long.

Three hours, y'all.

I just knew I'd fall asleep. So Bond it was. Still, the movie theater was the type with adjustable arm rests, so we were able to hold hands the entire movie and really snuggle together. Last weekend ranks in the top five of the most romantic weekends of my life, despite Bond. Oh... and despite the fact that, in my haste to pack in 30 minutes or less, I forgot to include one essential toiletry.

Yes, y'all, I forgot deodorant.

Can you believe it? The husband didn't even bat an eye, which - yet again - proves he is my Mr. Wonderful. Thank you so much, Husband. I love you.

omw....you are so funny....I'd take a get a way anywhere as well. I don't really like fancy shmancy dinners either and we waited 6 months to go on our honeymoon....lol...to Maui, so I guess it was worth the wait! lol

Somehow, the practicalities of life get in my way of being romantic too. You've got a keeper there. I'm glad you had such a great time.

Happy Anniversary! A weekend anywhere without the kids sounds great to me.

Happy Anniversary, slug, and Mr. Slug.

Paul B. and I spent this year's anniversary having dinner at my parents' house, and they offered to keep the kids so we could celebrate, but, we were tired, and so we took the kids home and went to bed. Yes, the romance is breathtaking.

Frankly, the fact that Husband actually BOUGHT you a Valentine's Day card (whether he gave it to you or not) qualifies as extra effort in my world. You may have noticed that my standards are quite low. =)

Kudos TM Husband. And kudos, Tonggu Granny.

Congrats on 10 years... quite a success in our current society. T Daddy (has a nice rapper ring, no?) done good. And, I'd have been so flustered I probably would have forgotten important items, too.

Blessings!

Happy Anniversary! What a thoughtful dh you have....any kind of get away is great in my book.

We've been married 19 years, we eloped as we weren't into the big wedding thing as it was our second marriage for both of us. We went on our honeymoon 10 months later...also to Hawaii.

Ahh, romantic surprises are the very best! That would be very cool to receive a surprise like that.

I think lots of us are in the 'non romantic' category. My husband surprised me with a weekend in June. The first time he's done that in 18 years! I'm glad you had a great time!

Sounds like a wonderful celebration of 10 years! Perfect getaway.

Holding hands in a dark movie- without kids climbing all over you, talking, and spilling- WHO cares what was playing!
Happy Happy Aniversary.

First off: congrats on the 10 years! And kudos TH for the 'whisk away'! I've always wanted to be whisked away by my husband, with someone I trust implicitly watching the kids.

But I shouldn't complain, our 10-year anniversary was celebrated with a 10-day-long trip to Tokyo, which was so much fun that we can't decide whether to spend every other big anniversary in a different major metropolitan city of the world, or just to go back to Tokyo every time!

yeah...thought I smelled something drifting down from the north!! :)

June 28th was our 22 anniversary. 22 years!! We didn't even celebrate this year because I had just gotten back from China with Little T!! That seemed enough celebration to both of us!

I'm glad you got to spend some alone time with your Mr. Wonderful!

Hugs,
Carla

What a wonderful anniversary gift! Our 20th is in July. With no family in town, we are on our own (ie: no weekend away). But we do plan to leave the little ones with our 18/15 year olds and go to Atlanta (30 min. away) for a night.

I'll take it!

Happy 10th Anniversary! Sounds like you had a lovely, romantic mini-getaway. :) (Nicely done, Tonguu Daddy!)

I had to chuckle at your history of practicality winning out over romance/spontaneity, though. I'm not very romantically-minded either. Hubs loves to surprise me with awesome knock-your-socks off Christmas/birthday/etc. gifts. Me? I'm just like, "I could really use a pair of jeans. What do you need this year?" Maybe it's an IN_J thing?

Wow! What an incredible weekend! We aren't much for romance either, but my husband did surprise me once with a weekend trip away.

Oh, and thanks for that beautiful view of Baltimore. There's a decent chance that the next step in life will take us exactly there, so it's nice to hear some good about it (because I'm terrified frankly).

Happy 10th Anniversary! May you have many many more :)

Oh! HAPPY BELATED ANNIVERSARY, TM! So happy that The husband was on top of things and that you had such a great weekend, James Bond movie aside. So romantic! Sigh!

Happy Anniversary!!! When I eat a fancy dinner, I feel guilty and it kind of ruins it.
And Mr. Wonderful is truly that.

How wonderful! My favorite present from my husband was when he surprised me with a trip to LA to see Wicked. He'd made arrangements for all of the kids, had everything planned to the last detail, and even though the whole trip was just a little over 24 hours, it was PERFECT. He's still getting royalites from that moment of spontaneous romance.
