Panda Bear Picnic
Yesterday, the Tongginator's class hosted a Teddy Bear Picnic. I'm sure all of the mommas of preschoolers out there know of what I speak: a cheese-fest dedicated to those lovable, huggable stuffed critters. The class sang that annoying song "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear," looked for bear tracks in the schoolyard, ate Teddy Grahams and - best of all (can you totally hear the sarcasm?) - every student brought along his or her favorite teddy bear. Every student, that is, except the Tongginator.
Because the Tongginator brought this:

The Tongginator, May 2005 at 15 months old
The child is obsessed with panda bears. I mean truly obsessed. (She even has a panda bear trash can in her room.) I must confess that the Tongginator comes by her obsession honestly. Let's just say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Tonggu Momma, circa 1976-ish
I do, however, need to pass the blame along even further, one ADDITIONAL generation back. Because I am all aboutpointing fingers at someone else personal responsibility. I sincerely feel that Tonggu Grammy really needs to apologize for her part in all of this.

Aunt P, Tonggu Grammy and Aunt M, circa 1967-ish
So the obsession is totally NOT because the Tongginator was born in China. I can't tell you the actual reasons because I myself do not understand, but I can rule out the Born In China Theory. It's embarrassing - the cliche of it all - which is why this will never end up in one of our photo albums. Beats the pants off of a lizard fetish...we'd really talk about you all then!
It is a cute panda bear though! WAY better than a teddy bear!!!!
You know what it is.. it isnt your fault, or your moms, it is NIXONS fault! How, I think he was the president that had the pandas flown over to the DC zoo... thats when the craze took off, so granny is off the hook and Nixon is on!
My absolutely FAVOURITE bear when I was growing up was a koala. And I'm not Australian. I mean, then all my kids should like polar bears, being from Canada and all.....LOL!
Well, I myself think Panda bears are cuter than teddy bears, and it has nothing to do with my Mom being Chinese-Filipino. The school should just have exercised tolerance and diversity and had a plain old Bear picnic without discrination against bears not of the Teddy kind. Sheesh!
P.S. Tonggu Grammy's photo is adorable :-)
Love the family line of Panda love! Love the photos too.
Pandas can't help that they are so darn cute!
Do you know how awesome this is? Wow, I am bubbling inside from these photos!
Awwww, pandas are so dang cute, who WOULDN'T be obsessed with them if they could be? Love that picture of the Tongginator with her bear, you can tell she loves it!
Oh my word....look how little T was in that picture!!
I would have to agree that TG started the Panda craze....how funny..those pictures are classic, Circa 1970's!!
Like PIPO said, she could be obsessed with something a lot worse than cute little Panda's!
That is so cool! It is neat that you have pictures from three generations with a panda!!!
Love your blog. I found you through Pipo. :o)
Pandas are so cute! There is no shame in having a panda obsession!
As for Bri, she is so obsessed with her "baby" right now that I have a feeling that "baby" would have attended the teddy bear picnic. At least T is still in the bear family!
I love that your generations share the panda love! Panda love is "nurture" apparently! :-)
That picture of grandma is precious! I love how you have three generations of panda lovers!
Those are fabulous pictures and I think you can just chalk it up to a 'family thing!' I think it's pretty cool!
How sweet!
That is so cute! I love how you all have loved a different panda through out the years. Very cute. It can be your family animal. ;-)
How great that you have photos of all of you with a Panda.
My son has a thing for pandas too, he even did a project on them last year. Complete with their names written in Chinese. He likes to do it right.
Very cool running theme/coincidence!
Keep smilin!
i was dually obsessed with a koala and panda teddy i had.... i still have the koala but mr panda, er, got destuffed. i think it is great that the pandas go way back when!!
They didn't even sing the Teddy Bear's Picnic song?! Sacrilage.
Isn't it funny how you can find "your" family (children, parents, aunts, uncles...) in the FURTHEST of strange and far off places? Even if not made "legally" mine, I have some pretty far-fetched family. Miss T. was meant to be your baby girl!
Oh, cute! Well...yay for her for being different! Panda Bears are waaayy cute! Okay...love the early pics of you!
I like T's choice for her Bear Day. How great that you can not only trace back your panda obsession three generations through memories, but pictures!! I love the picture of you as a kid. What a darling little smile!
I think that is great. Totally those three pics need to be side by side framed in Tonginators room, seriously!! I love her choice. where I live we have two on loan China pandas and after we came home and went to the zoo that would be the first place we would go so Glenys actually started calling them zoo-ahs. I didn't correct her because I thought it was so cute. She got it figured out though, :[
That's remarkable! Your family was meant for your little sweetie. And I'm convinced: nothing is cuter than a panda.
Love the old pics!
That is just precious! :-)
We lurve Panda's round my super home.
But TG does owe you some kind of apology!!
You have the best ideas for these Sincerely Fro Me To You posts. Love it.
I just love these photos!
Well that is a pretty cute bear to love if you are gonna love a bear. :)
What a cool connection! BTW..I adored Kristy McNichol! LOL thanks for visiting me today;-)
A bear is a bear is a bear...
I should know.

I love panda bears! I think it's cute that you have pictures proving it runs in the family. Ok, maybe it's not genetic, just environmental!
This is me, waving back to you! I am loving your blog...
I can't blame any of you...pandas are sooooo cute!
NO WAY... you have pictures of Tonggu GRAMMY with a panda???
Like grammy, like mother, like daughter. :)
Like Mother like Daughter!
...oh, that's already been said!
I think the tri-generational pandas are adorable! :)
Keilani got a Webkinz panda bear recently and I thought about you. :)
