Pasta Piggy

The husband has been out of town for the past six days, visiting his daddy who is terminally ill. My FIL's illness is not something I blog about much because there are just some things you keep private. I'm sure y'all understand what I mean when I say that.

Still, many of my friends in real life know that I'm not handling this well. And by this I mean my FIL's illness as well as my next-door neighbor and friend Rosie's presence in ICU. I try not to talk about it much, but it's obvious without words. My stress slips out in little large ways no matter how hard I try. And, to make matters worse, I turn into a neurotic mess when the husband travels, even if it's simply a business trip. For a trip like this... well... let's just say I barely hold it together.

My friends are amazing. They pray for me. They put up with my crazy, short-tempered self. And they help me out in many practical ways. In fact, they help so much, the Tongginator and I ate dinner with friends three of the past five nights (since the Husband is out of town).

Did I already say that my friends are amazing?

On Friday night, we ate dinner with our neighbors TheColorMeRed family and another family, friends of theirs I met for the first time that evening. Mom Apple and dad Pepper made a delicious meal of spaghetti and meatballs, crusty french bread, salad and even homemade ice cream cake. Everyone loaded up their plates, including the Tongginator and me. We gorged ourselves on pasta, bread and ice cream, with a side of healthy.

Oh, it tasted so yummy.

And, for once, I didn't feel like a total pig while eating beside Apple because SHE ate as much as I did. (You remember her, right? She's the cute neighbor who sprinted past me the day of my first walk.) Oh, I so enjoyed that dinner. But then... right after my last bite of homemade ice cream cake, I realized something... something that caused my fork to pause mid-air.

Every single adult in that room was running a half-marathon the next morning. Every single adult, that is, except me.

What can I say except "oink, oink?"

What a good thing you have those long femurs to stuff all the yumminess into...I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and your FIL, Tonggu Momma. I'm sure you know how many of your bloggy buddies will be lifting up your friends and family and YOU in prayer as well. Including me.

So sorry TM.
We will be praying for you, your husband, for Rosie and for your FIL. And fyi- If I were your neighbor.. I would SO cook you dinner and you would definitly NOT be the only one pigging out. Cause I am that good of a friend. ;) btw, the only thing wrong with that situation, is there should have been a brownie to go with the icecream.

I am so glad you have fabulous friends to carry you through this TM, and as Lisa said you will have all of us praying for you!

Oh! Oh dear. Well...maybe you could join the marathon? Or..I could lend you my toddler for the day. That's pretty much just LIKE a marathon!

Still praying for your peace, Mama. I do understand where you're at. We've been practicing hymns for my grandmother's funeral for months - she's already put the whole program together. I'm here if you need to talk...or giggle. :-)

It's great to hear you've got such wonderful friends to help carry you during TMH's absence... what are friends for if you can't stuff your face with them? And aren't we allowed to gain a few when our husbands are gone? I thought that was expected.

I'll be praying for you, along with Amie and Lisa... who both happen to be up and at 'em VERY early this morning! Hi girls!! :)

I'm neurotic when Ryan is out of town too. I should say Extra Neurotic. EN.
I too am very sorry about all the stress and strain of this awful illness.
I so love how you keep your sense of humor amidst your craziness.

So sorry to hear of your FIL and Rosie. But I loved this post. Don't worry--had I been there, I would have kept you company on those second helpings of yummy pasta, and then today I would have slept in and spent the day blogging. That takes a LOT of energy, you know ;)

Sorry to hear about your FIL and your neighbor. I'll be praying for all of you.

Glad to hear you have friends nearby for moral support right now. As for the half-marathon crowd, I can't even imagine it--makes me tired just thinking about it. :-)

It's great to have the support of loving praying friends to carry you threw the not so wonderful times. You sound a lot like myself counteracting pain with humor...it helps but there really is nothing better than surrounding yourself with all kinds of understanding people. I myself count on your support cause you are always there to pick me up and make effort above and beyond the call of blogging duty. You can count on me to be there to lift you up as well. Cosider your self "Velcro Hugged."
Saying a prayer for your FIL and neighbor.

Hey--you're on your own marathon--an emotional one, and that's even tougher. Don't sweat the pasta, and all the other small things.
I'll be praying for you and your family!
