Earthquake Relief

Please continue to remember the orphans in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality as they struggle to live during the aftermath of the May 12th 7.9 earthquake in China.

Young children, newly orphaned and/or newly homeless, have lived on the streets - wet and tired - for days. If you'd like to send these children a message of hope and cheer, consider providing a children's drawing to Children's Hope, which plans to deliver the artwork alongside its relief supplies. Mail your drawing, with name and a photo (optional) by e-mail (if you have a scanner available) to lettertochild@childrenshope.net or by mail to Children’s Hope International, Emergency Fund, 11780 Borman Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146-4157. Please create drawings using 8.5” x 11” white typing paper. If sending by mail, take care to not fold the paper.

Half the Sky, a highly reputable charitable organization, continues to meet the needs of earthquake victims, most especially those affiliated with China's orphanages. The Husband and I feel confident that all funds donated to this organization will go directly to those in need, as evidenced by the detailed record the organization kept of donated funds during the recent snowstorms that rocked China's southern provinces. In addition, Half the Sky received the 2008 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, presented by former President Jimmy Carter in England.

Oh, I'm so excited! I started today with my new "job" at church - I'm teaching the 5 year olds in Primary class! Since BBJ really isn't much of an artist (read: she eats the crayons, and nothing actually touches the paper), I'll ask my kids next week to draw pictures for the orphans. They'll love it! Is there a deadline? The soonest I can get it e-mailed in would be next Sunday night.

Their website doesn't say anything about a deadline. And since the relief efforts are ongoing, I would assume not...

And I heard on the radio this morning that the aftershocks are measuring high too.
