Goodbye, 2005!

Many of you are probably thinking, 'huh?' Those of you waiting to adopt from China know exactly what I'm talking about. Several U.S. and European agencies report receiving referrals, with the cut-off at January 4, 2006 log-in dates (LIDs).

I'd like a moment of silence, please. The Chinese Center for Adoption Affairs (the CCAA) finally, finally made it to 2006 log-in dates. Are you silent? Please people, a little respect or -- failing that -- how about shock? The never-ending LID year is finally over.

What does that mean for us? Not much. It's still a really, really long wait. With a June 2006 LID, and recent trends equating three months of LIDs for every year of referrals ... well, you do the math. Only six months separate us from the front of the line, yet we'll probably wait an additional eighteen months to two years. Crazy, isn't it?

But -- tonight -- I don't care! Goodbye, 2005! And congratulations to everyone who received a referral this month, especially a new Tonggu family: ex-pat Americans who live in Shanghai.

Congratulations! I can't imagine what it would be like to be "pregnant" (on the list) and have NO idea when you'll deliver! Here's wishing you ALL the best luck!
